About Us

Family Auto Sales is an entrepreneurial success story.  The moment you walk in you notice a difference –- you’re greeted by the owners, you get a sense of caring and personalized touch – like your needs really matter – and you see a wide spectrum of exceptionally clean, quality used vehicles.  Family Auto Sales owners Graham and Bonnie Steckly started their business in 1997, and they would tell you they had a lot of help along the way.  They had one simple goal — to assist families with saving money by providing quality, next-to-new vehicles at fair prices without the haggling and hassle that sometimes comes with buying from the bigger dealerships.

Graham started his career in the automotive business in 1982 as a salesman at Parkview Pontiac in Carstairs.  He worked at several other dealerships over the years before he and Bonnie decided to start Family Auto Sales.  “We felt in general that customers could be made to feel more comfortable during the car buying experience with more emphasis on their needs and less focus on company profit,” said Graham.

Graham hand selects the vehicles sold at Family Auto Sales, whether it’s through fleet lease companies, rental companies, at auction or customer trade-ins.  “The first thing I’m always looking for in a vehicle is something that I would own myself,” he said. “We’ve always dealt with premium condition used vehicles.

Buying a next-to-new vehicle benefits the customer in a number of ways, not the least being saving the initial depreciation that happens the moment a new vehicle is purchased.  As well, many of the kinks sometimes seen in new vehicles have already been worked out.  Selling high quality next-to-new vehicles at very competitive prices means that the inventory at Family Auto Sales is always “current and fresh,” he said.  And the company prides itself on always offering the consumer all the relevant information he or she needs to make good purchasing choices.

“We’ve always been up front about our pricing, with all the relevant information posted in the windows of the vehicles,” he said. “This allows people to come and browse after hours without feeling the pressure of being approached to purchase a vehicle.”  “We like to assist our customers without the run-around, and they appreciate dealing directly with the owners. We answer all the questions, but we will not pressure the customer. We are very transparent and provide all the information regarding the history of the vehicle that is available — AMVIC Mechanical Fitness Assessment, any service records, CarFax, accident history.”

The support of the community and referrals by their customers has been foundational to their success. The company’s website is www.familyauto.ca and the email is sales@familyauto.ca.
